The vision for the Columbus Hawks began to take shape in the fall of 2013 when a need for a homeschool basketball program became apparent in the area. Amy and Eric Hart took the initiative to kickstart the process of forming such a program. Doug Sabotin stepped forward to coach the inaugural boys' Columbus Hawks team, while Mike Muck volunteered to coach the first girls' team, turning this dream into a reality.

In the spring of 2014, the first board meeting convened, with each member playing a pivotal role in bringing the Columbus Hawks to life. Amy Hart handled communication and logistics, Eric Hart managed game logistics, Jamie Evans and Kristi Conrad served as Co-Treasurers, instrumental in obtaining 501C3 status for the Columbus Hawks. Dave Morris spearheaded fundraising efforts, with his church generously donating $5,000 towards the purchase of uniforms. Amy and Jason Dukes, along with their experience from another established homeschool team, contributed their vision to establish a robust program from the outset. Sunny Muck served as the inaugural athletic director, tirelessly working to build the Hawks' game schedule. Thus, the Columbus Hawks were born!

By the fall of 2014, registration opened for the first time, offering boys' 14u and 12u teams, as well as girls' 14u and 12u teams. Since then, the board of directors has steered a successful and thriving homeschool basketball program. Today, the Hawks cater to both girls and boys aged 8-18 in Columbus and surrounding areas, with many Columbus Hawks alumni returning to contribute as coaches and mentors.

The Columbus Hawks extend heartfelt gratitude to all who dedicated their time and efforts to create not just a basketball program, but a cherished ministry for homeschoolers in Columbus, Indiana.
